The overtime calculation tip is important. My employer was calculating OT on base pay only, ignoring my shift differential. That's an FLSA violation. Filed with DOL and got 2 years of back pay.

SB 1264 saved me from a $9,000 surprise anesthesiologist bill at a Baylor ER. I only owed my in-network copay.

From a fellow Portland transplant: you will miss public transit, rain, and mountains. You will gain incredible food diversity, lower cost of living (even now), and genuinely friendly people. It evens out. Give it 12 months.

Dallas Arboretum Cool Thursdays is technically $15 but you get full garden access + concert. Bring a picnic, a bottle of wine, and watch the sunset. Worth it.

Kayak rental on the weekends at Paddle Point is a great intro to the lake. Calm water in the morning, beautiful views, good workout. $30 for an hour is reasonable.

UTD financial aid office told me directly: "We can't give you any institutional aid without FAFSA on file." Even merit scholarship recipients need it.

Uninsured motorist coverage is non-negotiable in Texas. Got rear-ended by an uninsured driver on I-30. UM coverage paid my $8,000 repair bill entirely.

Austin people who moved there in 2015 and complain about newcomers in 2026... that's literally what you did. Glass houses.

Mariscos del Rey aguachile verde is the real deal. Oak Cliff keeps winning.

The composure is what stands out. Most rookies have emotional moments, radio outbursts, on-track incidents. Piastri races like a 10-year veteran.

Oncor outage map during storms is both useful and terrifying. Watching the numbers climb from 100K to 500K+ outages in real time during a storm is surreal.

THSC convention in The Woodlands every year is worth attending even if you're just considering homeschooling. Massive vendor hall, workshops, legal updates.

One thing nobody mentions — Rowlett has way more tree cover and established neighborhoods than Frisco. Frisco is beautiful but it's all new construction on former farmland. Rowlett has mature neighborhoods with character.

went to a Fury FC event last year and saw a DFW amateur who was clearly levels above everyone else. wouldn't be surprised to see him in LFA this year and UFC within 2-3. the talent in this city is real

As someone from Fort Worth: the Stockyards, Sundance Square, and the Cultural District are legitimately better than anything in Dallas fight me.

Shared this with my neighborhood group chat. People need to know.

the Danaher leg lock series changed competitive BJJ forever. before that series came out, leg locks were a niche game. after it, every gym in the world started teaching heel hooks. single most influential instructional ever made

UTA is the most slept-on school in DFW. Engineering program is ABET accredited and tuition is $3K/year cheaper than UTD.

The diverging diamond at PGBT/66 confused me the first three times I drove it. Now I think it's genius. Traffic flows so much better than the old light.

FAFSA by January is critical. Texas aid runs out. I filed in March one year and got $4,000 less than the year I filed in December.

This is what happens when private equity buys up commercial real estate. Independent restaurants can't compete with national chains for lease terms.

Browns fan in Dallas here. We moved from Cleveland for a reason. I still watch every Sunday at 12 PM and I still hate myself for it.

The 2am Whataburger run transcends alcohol. Sober or not, that Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit hits the same.

Can someone from the north side weigh in? Curious if it's the same up there.

QT at Town East is consistently the cheapest non-membership gas in east Dallas/Mesquite. Can confirm.

Moving the line back would help but it would also make Steph Curry even more dominant. He already shoots from 30 feet. Adding 2 feet to the line just eliminates everyone who is not elite from range.
