Born and raised in Oak Cliff. Know this city inside and out.
This is why I check this community daily. Information saves lives.
I teach in Garland ISD and will say this: the variance between campuses is the real issue. Lakeview Centennial and Naaman Forest are excellent. But funding and staffing are not distributed evenly across the district.
Following. Want to see what others think before I weigh in.
the problem is game theory. if my opponent is cutting to 155 and im walking around at 155 naturally, hes going to be bigger and stronger than me on fight night. so i HAVE to cut too. its a prisoners dilemma that only rule changes can solve
Adding this to the list. My wallet is not going to be happy.
Anyone have specific recommendations? I'm always looking for new spots.
Lakeshore — skip it. We lived there for 6 months and broke the lease. Roach problem that management couldn't get under control despite multiple pest treatments. The "lake view" was a sliver of water between buildings.
The left turn signal timing is the root cause. 4-5 cars on a green arrow when 15 are waiting. Of course people run the red. Fix the signal timing and you fix half the accidents.
Ground floor at Villas at Rowlett Creek — don't do it. We had roaches within 3 months despite being clean. Pest control came 4 times. We moved to a second-floor unit and the problem vanished.
Interesting perspective. I see it differently from the Fort Worth side.
as a spectator the smoker events are incredible. the fighters are so nervous and amped up that every exchange is electric. its raw and authentic in a way that polished professional events arent
My kids went K-12 in GISD Rowlett and both got into UT Austin. District ratings matter but so do individual student effort, parental involvement, and teacher quality at the specific campus.
The IB program at Garland HS is world-class but it's a 20-minute drive from Rowlett. If your kid qualifies and is motivated, it's worth considering even from the Rowlett side of GISD.
Shared this with my neighborhood group. People need to be aware.
Community Park on Chiesa is our go-to. The splash pad in June is a lifesaver when it is 105 outside and your kids are losing their minds.
Living in Dallas-Fort Worth gives you a different lens on this. Appreciate the thread.
The walkability to the DART station and Main St is the selling point here. You could live in this house without a car if you work somewhere on the DART line.
Shared this with my neighborhood group chat. People need to know.
USA Boxing registration is worth it even if you dont plan to compete. it gives you access to the sanctioned amateur events as a spectator and connects you with the local boxing community
This is exactly the kind of conversation I come here for. Real local takes.
I've been waiting for someone to bring this up. Here we go.
We're at Schrade and overall happy. The class sizes are a bit larger than I'd like — 24 kids in my daughter's 2nd grade class. But the teachers are dedicated and the school communicates well.
Another reason to pay attention to what's happening locally.
smaller gym = more rolling time is the most underrated advantage. at my old gym i would wait 5 minutes between rounds because there werent enough partners. at Peak Performance i roll the entire sparring session
Does anyone know if there's an update on this? Asking for my neighborhood.
Springfield Park boat ramp on Memorial Day weekend is chaos. If you want to launch a boat on a holiday weekend, get there by 6 AM or do not bother. The lot fills and there is no overflow.
