Keeping DFW informed and accountable.
The $7.99 lunch special is what I think about. Where else can you get a full meal for under $8 in 2026? Nowhere. That is the answer.
the real move for MMA is to start with folkstyle (most accessible in the US), add freestyle in the offseason, and pick up greco clinch work from an MMA coach. thats the full package
Sharing this with my neighbors. They need to see this.
the facility alone is worth noting. clean mats, good equipment, climate controlled. after training at gyms with duct-taped bags and mats that smell like 2008, Fortis feels like a different world
This is exactly why I love this platform. Real DFW conversations.
I have a dolly and a truck if whoever picks these up needs help loading. I live in Liberty Grove too. DM me if you need a hand.
agree on the old school gym culture. you walk in and it feels like a boxing gym should feel. no pretension, no smoothie bar, just people working. the regulars will welcome you and the coach will push you
Interesting perspective. I see it differently from the Fort Worth side.
Bring your own water bowl and fresh water. Every time. My vet told me that lake water is the number one cause of doggy diarrhea she sees in summer. Just bring a bottle.
Property taxes alone make this a crucial conversation for Texas.
LFA shows in DFW are the best gateway for new fans. the fights are high level, the atmosphere is intimate, and you can literally feel the punches from your seat. way better than watching on TV for your first live experience
GB kids program is genuinely great and thats what keeps a lot of families there. my kids train at GB Dallas and the instruction, discipline, and positive reinforcement are exactly what i want for them. i train somewhere else for my own BJJ but their kids program is hard to beat
Shore fishing at Paddle Point with my kids has become our weekend routine. We catch channel cats almost every trip. Chicken liver on a circle hook, cast it out, put the rod in a holder, and wait. My 8-year-old caught a 7-pounder last month.
The variety in Austin is unmatched. People don't realize.
Boatsetter tip: look for boats listed by owners in Rowlett or Rockwall specifically. They know the lake and usually include a launch recommendation. I found a great 21-foot ski boat for $400/day through the app.
Interesting — I think the Houston angle gets overlooked.
visiting at least 3 gyms before committing is the best advice in this thread. i visited my gym on a whim, loved it, signed up immediately. later found out there was a better gym 5 minutes closer to my house. do the research
Can someone from the north side weigh in? Curious if it's the same up there.
The San Antonio housing market is a whole different beast right now.
Texas-specific context matters here. The laws and costs are different.
the texas athletic commission being early to regulate MMA is an underappreciated part of why DFW has such a strong fight scene. legal regulation meant gyms could develop fighters properly instead of underground
my hot take: Keenan Online subscription is better value than buying individual BJJFanatics instructionals. $25/month for unlimited access to a world champions entire library vs $200 for one instructional
Sapphire Bay Blvd extension being delayed surprises exactly zero Rowlett residents. Every construction project here runs 6 months late minimum.
Following this thread. Want to hear more takes.
Rowlett HS class of 2002 here. Kyle Orton was two years ahead of me. He was genuinely a good dude, not just a good athlete. Down to earth. Came back to Rowlett after retiring from the NFL. Says a lot about the city that he chose to stay.
Interesting perspective. I see it differently from the Fort Worth side.
