if you want to learn to box — actually BOX — Main Street Boxing and MMA in Mansfield is one of the best options in DFW. this is not a fitness boxing studio. this is a fight gym.
location: Mansfield, south of Arlington. if you are in the south DFW area this is an easy drive. if you are in north dallas its a commitment but worth the trip.
what they do:
- boxing is the primary discipline and its done RIGHT. proper technique, real sparring, amateur and professional fighter development
- they also have an MMA program which has grown in recent years
- the youth boxing program is one of the best in DFW
the coaching:
- the coaches have real boxing credentials. this isnt someone who watched YouTube and decided to teach. these are people who have been in the sport for years as fighters and/or cornermen
- the attention to fundamentals — footwork, defense, ring generalship — is what separates this gym from fitness boxing
- they take sparring seriously. its supervised, matched by experience level, and coached. not just two guys swinging at each other
pricing: affordable. boxing gyms are generally cheaper than BJJ/MMA gyms and Main Street follows that trend. approximately $75-120/month.
the facility:
- a real boxing gym. ring, heavy bags, speed bags, double-end bags. functional not fancy
- this is what a boxing gym is supposed to look like. the equipment is well maintained but dont expect a spa
competition:
- Main Street produces Golden Gloves competitors and professional fighters
- if you want to compete in boxing in DFW, this is one of the gyms that will actually prepare you
- the coach will honestly assess your readiness and not rush you into fights
who its best for:
- anyone who wants to learn real boxing (not boxing fitness)
- aspiring amateur and professional boxers
- people in the south DFW area (Mansfield, Arlington, south Fort Worth)
- people who appreciate old school gym culture and no-frills training
overall: 8/10 — one of the most authentic boxing experiences in DFW. the coaching is legit, the culture is real, and the price is right.
the drive from north dallas is the only thing stopping me from training here full time. i drop in once a month for Saturday sparring and the quality of the boxing coaching is noticeably better than what i get at my MMA gym closer to home
