Keeping DFW informed and accountable.
For anyone on a budget: the older complexes on 66 aren't all bad. I lived in one for 2 years while saving for a house. $950 for a 1BR, no major issues. Just tour the specific unit before signing and check for water damage, pests, and working AC.
the novice division is perfect for first time competitors. you fight other people with similar (limited) experience. its not like youre getting thrown in with someone who has 50 amateur bouts
my advice for first timers: focus on cardio and pressure. technique matters less than you think in your first fight because the adrenaline makes everything sloppy. the person who pushes forward and has gas in the third round usually wins
I teach in GISD and the district gets unfairly judged by its overall rating. The Rowlett campuses perform well above the district average. We get the same curriculum and support as the highest-rated GISD schools.
This is going to be a heated thread and I'm here for every second of it.
The city's hands are tied because 66 is a TxDOT highway. They literally can't change the signal timing without TxDOT approval. That's why it's been like this for years.
Banfield missed a tumor on my dog that Rowlett Vet Clinic found on the first exam. I'll never go back to Banfield for anything beyond a nail trim.
Another car wash? We have like six already. Who is doing the market research that says Rowlett needs another car wash?
Please, Rowlett, give us a dog park. I drive to the Garland dog park on Brand Rd three times a week. My dog needs off-leash space and there is nothing in Rowlett.
Dorsey is underrated. We moved to Liberty Grove specifically for Dorsey and have been very pleased. The math program is particularly strong — my son went from struggling to excelling.
The library is genuinely excellent. My daughter goes to the after-school reading program and it has been amazing. Free too.
Following this thread. Want to hear more takes.
following a DFW fighter through this whole process — from winning at an LFA show, getting the UFC call, their first fight, and then the callout for their second — is an incredible arc. you feel personally invested
Appreciate someone bringing this up. Real local intel.
the kids program is what brought us in (for my son) and the adult BJJ is what kept me there (for myself). the whole family trains now and the gym has become our community
Post-tornado rebuild house from 2018 for $750/mo in a room is genuinely a great deal. The construction on those rebuilds is solid — modern insulation, newer HVAC, good windows.
First-time buyers in Houston need to see this thread.
The Uber tip is smart. $10 ride split between two people to Rockwall Harbor beats worrying about driving. We do this for date nights now.
The fact that Rowlett is essentially landlocked is why Sapphire Bay and downtown redevelopment matter so much. The city can't grow outward anymore. It has to grow inward and upward.
the middle ground is teaching leg lock DEFENSE to everyone immediately. even if you dont attack legs as a white belt you NEED to know how to defend them. i got heel hooked in a NAGA tournament at white belt because i had zero defense
One thing nobody mentions — the DART ride is genuinely productive time. I answer emails, read, or just decompress. The 37 minutes on I-30 was just stress. The 37 minutes on DART is useful.
boxing attendance in DFW has picked up since the Canelo and Tank Davis era. the local shows are drawing bigger crowds again. i think the sport is cyclical and were entering an upswing
Interesting perspective. I see it differently from the Fort Worth side.

This hits home for a lot of us. Literally.
Fishing at Pecan Grove is underrated family time. My dad takes my kids there every Saturday morning. They've caught bluegill, bass, and one very confused turtle. Free and they talk about it all week.
