Rowlett has two high schools, both in Garland ISD: Rowlett High School (Eagles) and Lakeview Centennial High School (Patriots). The rivalry is real. Here's an honest look at both.
Rowlett High School (Eagles)
- Opened: 1978
- Enrollment: ~2,300
- TEA rating: B
- Notable programs: Strong theater/drama program (the Eagle Players are consistently competitive at UIL), solid athletics across multiple sports, STEM academy pathway
- Football: Competitive in District. The Eagles have had some strong seasons recently.
- Culture: Described by students as "diverse and spirited." Strong school pride, especially around homecoming.
- Campus: The building shows its age but has received renovations. The athletic facilities are good.
Lakeview Centennial High School (Patriots)
- Opened: 1982
- Enrollment: ~2,100
- TEA rating: B
- Notable programs: Award-winning band program (the Patriot Band is a perennial UIL finalist), strong CTE (Career and Technical Education) offerings, competitive academic decathlon team
- Football: Has had some powerhouse seasons. The rivalry games against Rowlett are packed.
- Culture: Described as "close-knit despite its size." Strong band and fine arts culture.
- Campus: Similar vintage to Rowlett HS. Recent improvements to the performing arts center.
The rivalry: The Rowlett-Lakeview game is THE social event of fall in Rowlett. Doesn't matter what either team's record is — the stands are full, both sides are loud, and bragging rights are on the line for the whole year. The traveling trophy (the Oar) adds tradition. If you're new to Rowlett, go to this game. It's community at its best.
Academics comparison: Honestly, they're very similar. Both are B-rated by TEA. Both have AP offerings, CTE pathways, and dual credit options through Dallas College. Neither is dramatically stronger than the other academically. The choice between them is usually determined by address, not academic preference.
College placement: Both schools send graduates to UT, Texas A&M, UNT, UTD, and the full range of Texas universities. Neither has a significantly different college-going rate.
The RISD option: Families on the RISD side of Rowlett attend Rockwall-Heath High School, which is generally rated higher than both GISD options. This is a major factor in the GISD/RISD home price differential.

The Rowlett-Lakeview game is an absolute scene. My family has lived here since 1990 and we've gone to every single one. Even years when both teams have losing records, the stands are packed. It's not about football — it's about community.
