Emergency rooms near Rowlett ranked by wait time — where to actually go

When you need an ER in Rowlett, you have options — but the wrong choice can mean sitting for 4+ hours. Here's the breakdown based on personal experience and data.

Option 1: Lake Pointe Medical Center ER (Rockwall)

  • Address: 6800 Scenic Dr, Rowlett (technically Rowlett address, Rockwall side of the lake)
  • Distance from central Rowlett: 10-12 minutes
  • Average wait: 30-60 minutes
  • Full hospital ER with trauma capability, imaging, lab, pharmacy
  • This is where you go for anything serious — chest pain, broken bones, severe allergic reactions, anything involving your kids that scares you
  • Accepts most insurance. Affiliated with CHRISTUS Health.

Option 2: Baylor Scott & White Emergency Medical Center — Rockwall

  • Address: 1975 Alpha Dr, Rockwall
  • Distance from Rowlett: 15 minutes
  • Average wait: 20-40 minutes (newer facility, less crowded)
  • Freestanding ER backed by Baylor hospital system. Can transfer to Baylor Garland or Baylor Dallas if needed.
  • Good for: anything that needs imaging fast. Their CT scanner wait is usually shorter than Lake Pointe.

Option 3: SignatureCare Emergency Center — Rockwall

  • Address: 801 E I-30, Rockwall
  • Distance from Rowlett: 12 minutes
  • Average wait: 15-30 minutes (lowest wait times consistently)
  • Freestanding ER. Open 24/7. Clean, fast, friendly staff.
  • The catch: they're out-of-network for some insurance plans. ASK before you go if it's not life-threatening. An ER visit here without in-network coverage can be $3,000+.

Option 4: Baylor Scott & White — Garland ER

  • Address: 2300 Marie Curie Blvd, Garland
  • Distance from Rowlett: 15-20 minutes
  • Average wait: 45-90 minutes (busiest option)
  • Full hospital. Go here only if Lake Pointe is on divert or you need a specific specialist.

ER vs. Urgent Care — when to go where:

  • ER: Chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, head injury, high fever in infants, broken bones, allergic reactions with swelling/breathing issues, stroke symptoms (FAST: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911)
  • Urgent Care: Sprains, minor cuts, UTI, ear infections, flu/cold, minor allergic reactions, non-emergency X-rays

Rowlett Urgent Care options:

  • CareNow (Lakeview Pkwy) — open 8am-8pm weekdays, 8am-5pm weekends
  • MinuteClinic inside CVS (66 & Dalrock) — basic stuff only: flu tests, vaccinations, minor infections

Pro tip: Lake Pointe and Baylor both post estimated wait times online. Check before you drive.

SignatureCare is fast but they hit me with a $4,200 bill because they were out of network for my BCBS plan. The care was excellent but check your insurance FIRST if you have time.

Lake Pointe ER saved my dad during a heart attack last year. We were in Rowlett, called 911, Rowlett Fire got there in 4 minutes, and had him in the cath lab at Lake Pointe within 30 minutes. Nothing but respect for that team.

The CareNow on Lakeview is underrated for stuff that doesn't need an ER. Got my son's broken finger X-rayed and splinted there in under an hour. Saved us an ER copay.

Download the MyBSWHealth app if you use Baylor. You can see ER wait times in real-time for all their facilities before you drive there.

Baylor Garland ER wait times are insane. Took my kid there with a 104 fever and waited 2 hours and 40 minutes. Never again. Lake Pointe is closer to Rowlett anyway.
