Best restaurants in Rowlett ranked — the actual locals list

I am tired of Google results showing chain restaurants when you search for food in Rowlett. Here is the real locals list — places that people who actually live here eat at regularly.

Top tier — the ones you tell friends about:

  1. Gloria's Latin Cuisine (Lakeview Pkwy) — Salvadoran and Tex-Mex fusion. The pupusas are incredible and the black bean dip is addictive. This is where you take people from out of town. Patio seating overlooking the lake area.

  2. Napoli's Italian (Rowlett Rd near Main St) — Family owned, been here for years. The lasagna and the garlic knots are the move. BYOB used to be a thing here, call ahead to check.

  3. Dodie's Cajun Diner (on the Rockwall border near the lake) — Technically Rockwall address but Rowlett claims it. Fried catfish, gumbo, po'boys. Lakeside patio seating. Go for lunch on a weekday when it is not slammed.

Solid regulars — reliable and consistent:

  1. Fish City Grill (Lakeview Pkwy at Dalrock) — Freshest fish in Rowlett. The grilled redfish and the fish tacos are both excellent. Happy hour Mon-Fri is worth it.

  2. Hunan Chinese (Lakeview Pkwy) — Hole in the wall that delivers. The General Tso's and the hot and sour soup are legit. Not Americanized — actually has heat.

  3. Dickey's BBQ (Lakeview Pkwy) — Yes it is a chain but the Rowlett location is one of the originals and it is solid. The brisket is consistent and the family packs are a good deal for feeding a crowd.

Quick bites and casual:

  1. Torchy's Tacos (Lakeview Pkwy) — Reliable. The Trailer Park trashy is the go-to. Always busy at lunch.

  2. Cotton Patch Cafe (Lakeview Pkwy) — Southern comfort food. The chicken fried steak is massive. Good for family dinners when nobody can agree on a restaurant.

What Rowlett needs: An actual sushi restaurant. A proper steakhouse. A rooftop bar. Sapphire Bay might deliver these but right now the gap is real. You are driving to Rockwall or Garland for anything upscale.

Napoli's is a Rowlett institution. My family has been going there for 15 years. The owner still walks around and checks on tables. That does not happen at chains.

Cotton Patch chicken fried steak is the size of a small child. Bring your appetite or plan to take half home.
