  2. Rowlett Public Library Summer Reading Program — Sign up starting May 1. Kids track books read over the summer and earn prizes (book bags, gift cards, small toys). The kick-off event usually has a magician or animal show. Source: rowlett.com/library

UNDER $20:

  1. Parks & Rec Summer Day Camp — $125/week for Rowlett residents. That's $25/day for structured activities 9am-3pm including field trips, crafts, and sports. Extended care to 6pm available for $40 extra/week. This is the best deal in Rowlett for working parents.

  2. Hawaiian Falls (Garland, 15 min) — Day passes around $20-25. Slides, wave pool, lazy river. Worth it on the 100-degree days when you need something bigger than the splash pad.

  3. Bowling at Main Event (Garland, 15 min) — Summer bowling deals for kids, usually under $10 for 2 games with shoes. Check their summer specials.

Hawaiian Falls on a Tuesday is a completely different experience than Saturday. Half the crowds, no line for slides. Take a PTO day mid-week and go. Your kids will think you're a hero.

Library summer reading program last year — my daughter read 42 books over the summer and won a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card. It's the only thing that keeps her reading instead of watching YouTube all summer.

The splash pad is our daily destination June through August. Go early — by noon it's packed. We arrive at 10am, do splash pad until 11:30, eat lunch at the pavilion, and head home for naps. Perfect summer morning.

VBS is a cheat code for free summer activities. Lakepointe Church does an incredible week-long program with crafts, music, snacks — all free. Registration opens in April and fills up fast.

Parks & Rec summer camp at $125/week is the best childcare deal in Rowlett. My kids went last year and LOVED it. The counselors are high school and college kids who actually engage with them. Not just screen time babysitting.
