Rowlett garage sale and estate sale Facebook groups — the ones that actually have good stuff

The garage sale and estate sale game in Rowlett is strong if you know where to look. Most of the action happens on Facebook. Here are the groups worth joining and the ones that are just noise.

Tier 1 — Active, well-moderated, actual deals:

  1. "Rowlett TX Garage Sales & Yard Sales" (6K+ members)

    • The main one. Posts go up Wednesday-Friday for weekend sales. Sellers post photos and addresses. Active commenting.
    • Best for: furniture, kids stuff, tools, household items
    • The Saturday morning regulars hit 3-5 sales before 9am. Follow the addresses posted Friday night.
  2. "Rowlett, TX Buy/Sell/Trade" (12K+ members)

    • Not garage-sale specific but people list individual items daily. Good for furniture, electronics, and baby gear.
    • Be cautious: some flippers list items at close-to-retail prices. Always check retail price before buying.
  3. "Estate Sales in East DFW" (4K+ members)

    • Estate sales are where the REAL finds are. Entire households being sold — furniture, vintage items, tools, kitchenware.
    • Estate sale companies post Thursday/Friday for weekend sales. EstateSales.net is also useful.
    • Pro tip: Day 2 (usually Sunday) everything is 50% off. Day 1 gets the best selection. Choose your strategy.

Tier 2 — Worth checking occasionally:

  1. "Rockwall/Rowlett/Garland Marketplace" (8K+ members)

    • Broader area means more listings but also more noise. Good for cars, large items, and services.
  2. "Rowlett Moms Buy/Sell" (3K+ members)

    • Specifically kid-focused: clothes, toys, strollers, cribs, school supplies. If you have kids under 10, this group is gold.

Tier 3 — Mostly spam, proceed with caution:

  1. Facebook Marketplace (general) — Filter by Rowlett, TX and set a 5-mile radius. Marketplace has gotten flooded with dropship scam listings. If the seller won't meet locally, it's a scam.

Garage sale pro tips for Rowlett:

  • The Shores and Dalrock Ranch neighborhoods have the best garage sales. Higher-end homes = higher-end stuff being sold.
  • Spring (March-May) and Fall (September-October) are peak garage sale season. Too hot in summer, too cold in winter.
  • City-wide garage sale days happen once or twice a year — the city promotes them and publishes a map. Check rowlett.com/events.
  • Negotiate EVERYTHING after 10am. Sellers don't want to haul stuff back inside.
  • Bring small bills and change. Nobody wants to break a $50 for a $3 item.

Red flags:

  • "Brand new, in box" items at garage sales are often stolen goods or Amazon return pallets. Use judgment.
  • If a listing says "serious inquiries only" and the price is already high, that seller isn't negotiating.
  • Never Venmo/Zelle before seeing the item. Cash at pickup only.

Cash in small bills is the biggest pro tip here. I keep a garage sale wallet with $40 in ones and fives. Sellers round down when you're paying cash and don't have change.
