Looking at karate schools for my daughter in the Richardson/Plano area and I can't tell the legit ones from the belt mills. Some of them promise black belt in 2 years for a 6-year-old which seems... wrong.
What should I look for? What are the red flags? I don't need her to be a UFC fighter — I just want real instruction, discipline, and a school that doesn't hand out belts to keep parents paying.
Any specific recommendations in the area are welcome too.
Look for schools affiliated with established Japanese or Okinawan organizations (JKA, WKF, etc). They have standards for rank.
