I have been on a mission to find the best tacos in DFW since moving here in 2023. Over 150 taco spots visited. Here is the definitive ranking.
S Tier (worth driving across the metroplex)
- Revolver Taco Lounge (Deep Ellum) — The al pastor is life-changing. Pineapple, cilantro, onion on handmade tortilla. Source: James Beard semifinalist.
- La Banqueta (Oak Cliff, Jefferson Blvd) — Authentic street tacos. Cabeza and lengua are the move. Cash only.
- Trompo (Lowest Greenville) — Al pastor carved from the trompo right in front of you. The real deal.
A Tier (outstanding)
- Fuel City (Riverfront Blvd) — Yes, the gas station. The breakfast tacos at 2 AM are a DFW institution.
- El Si Hay (Oak Cliff) — Birria tacos with the consomme for dipping. Weekend only.
- Tacos La Banqueta Paco (multiple locations) — Consistent, cheap, authentic. The suadero is incredible.
B Tier (very good)
- Velvet Taco (multiple) — Creative fusion tacos. The rotisserie chicken is a banger. More expensive but worth it for variety.
- Torchy's Tacos (multiple) — Solid chain. The Trailer Park and Democrat are reliable. Not authentic but fun.
- Rusty Taco (multiple) — DFW-born chain. Good fish tacos.
Overrated (fight me)
- Fuzzy's Taco Shop — It's fine. It's not special. Tourist trap.

Drop your hidden gems below. I know I'm missing spots.
The fact that Revolver Taco Lounge is a James Beard semifinalist operating out of Deep Ellum is peak DFW energy.
