Oak Cliff taco crawl: Walking guide to Jefferson Blvd's best spots

Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff is the best taco street in DFW. You can walk a mile stretch and hit 8+ taco spots. Here is the crawl I take friends on.

The route (south to north on Jefferson):

Stop 1: La Banqueta (Jefferson near Beckley)

  • Start here. Cabeza taco and a horchata. $5 total.

Stop 2: El Come Taco (Jefferson near Zang)

  • Slightly more upscale. The rajas con crema taco is vegetarian perfection.

Stop 3: Taqueria El Si Hay (Jefferson near Tyler)

  • Birria tacos. Get the consomme. Weekend only.

Stop 4: Maroches Bakery (Jefferson near Madison)

  • Paletas and pan dulce break. You need a breather between taco stops.

Stop 5: Random taco truck (varies, check the corner of Jefferson and Zang)

  • There is always a truck here on weekends. Whatever they are serving, get it.

Tips:

  • Go on a Saturday morning between 9-11 AM
  • Bring cash. Half these places are cash only.
  • Parking: street parking on Jefferson or the lots behind the shops
  • Walk it. The whole stretch is under a mile.
  • Bring a friend. You want to split tacos so you can hit every stop.

Source: I have done this crawl 12+ times since 2024. It has never disappointed.

Oak Cliff is the most underrated food neighborhood in DFW and it is not close. While everyone fights for reservations in Uptown, we are eating better food for a quarter of the price.

This is the way. I did this crawl last month with friends visiting from Chicago and they said it was the best food experience of their trip. Better than any fancy Dallas restaurant.

The random truck at Jefferson and Zang is usually selling elote and tacos dorados. Both are incredible.

Pro tip: after the taco crawl, walk to Davis Street for coffee at Sunset Alley. Perfect end to the morning.
