I'm a senior software engineer working remote for a company based in San Francisco. I make a Bay Area salary and live in a 3BR house in Richardson that costs $2,100/month.
The same house in the Bay would be $5,000+ easy. I'm saving almost $3K/month just on housing.
The only downside is the time zone thing. Some meetings start at 11am Pacific which is 1pm here, and I'm usually done by 3pm Central while my team works until 6pm their time. But honestly, I just adjusted my schedule.
If you're in tech and not taking advantage of remote + DFW cost of living, you're leaving money on the table.
