Texas Pride MMA (Tyler, East Texas) — review for the non-DFW crowd

not everything is in dallas or fort worth. if you are in east texas, Tyler specifically, Texas Pride MMA deserves a look. including this because DFW is the focus but the broader north texas combat sports community extends east.

location: Tyler, TX — about 1.5-2 hours east of dallas. for east texans this is the nearest quality MMA gym without driving to DFW.

disciplines: MMA, BJJ, wrestling, striking. full combat sports curriculum.

the vibe:

  • small town gym energy with big city quality instruction
  • the coaching staff has legit credentials and the gym has produced fighters who have competed at the regional and professional level
  • the community feel is stronger than most DFW gyms because the team is smaller. everyone knows everyone

why it matters for the DFW community:

  • the DFW martial arts scene doesnt exist in isolation. east texas fighters come to DFW for competitions, seminars, and training camps
  • supporting gyms outside of the DFW bubble strengthens texas combat sports overall
  • if you have family in east texas or travel there for work, knowing there is a quality training option is valuable

pricing: generally lower than DFW gyms. east texas cost of living is lower and gym pricing reflects that.

who its best for:

  • east texas residents who want to train without driving to DFW
  • people who prefer a tight-knit small gym community
  • anyone in the Tyler/Longview/Marshall area interested in martial arts

the bigger picture: texas combat sports is growing everywhere, not just in the major metros. gyms like Texas Pride MMA are building martial arts culture in areas that historically didnt have access to quality instruction. thats good for everyone.

grew up in Tyler and trained at Texas Pride before moving to dallas for work. the coaching was solid and the community was incredible. small gym means the coach knows your name, your strengths, and your weaknesses. that personal attention is hard to find in a big city gym
