The crystal lagoon delay is concerning. That was supposed to be the headline attraction and it keeps getting pushed back. I hope they deliver but my expectations are tempered.

The water rate increase is frustrating but it's NTMWD driving it, not the city. Everyone on NTMWD water is dealing with the same increases — Plano, Allen, Richardson, all of them.

The city council angle on this is worth watching.

I live in Bayside and we had someone knocking on doors last week asking about "lawn care services." No truck, no equipment, no flyers. My wife did not answer the door and watched through the window — the guy walked to the next house, looked in the garage window, and left.

The birria truck on weekends is incredible. My wife and I discovered it by accident when we were getting gas. The consomme for dipping is rich and perfectly spiced. Get there before 2 PM because the line gets long.

Lakeview Pkwy at 5:30 PM is a nightmare. I take Dalrock to Chiesa as a cut-through to avoid it entirely. Not much faster but at least you are moving.

Don't sleep on the school-based tutoring options. Both Rowlett HS and Lakeview have after-school tutoring labs staffed by teachers. It's free and the teachers know the curriculum. My daughter goes twice a week for AP Chemistry help.

Kumon parent for 3 years. It works but you have to commit. The daily worksheets feel like a grind for both the kid and the parent. But the results are real — my daughter is now two grade levels ahead in reading.

Lakeview Pkwy widening between Dalrock and PGBT can't finish soon enough. School pickup at Schrade turns that stretch into a parking lot from 3:15 to 3:45 every weekday.

Tom Thumb fried chicken from the deli is Rowlett's best kept secret. I buy a whole rotisserie chicken for $7.99 every Sunday. Better than any fast food chicken and feeds the whole family.
