Anyone have more local context on this? The details matter.
This is exactly why I love this platform. Real DFW conversations.
the argument that leg locks are dangerous is valid if your gym has no coaching around them. the argument is invalid if your gym has a structured curriculum that teaches mechanics and respect for the position first
This is why I check this community daily. Information saves lives.
the history of Golden Gloves in Texas is incredible. some of the best boxers in the world came through the Texas circuit. DFW gyms have produced state and national champions
Property taxes alone make this a crucial conversation for Texas.
the mid-cities and northeast Tarrant County area is underserved for martial arts compared to dallas proper. Peak Performance fills that gap well. glad to see them getting recognition
Real talk right here. No sugarcoating.
Stay safe out there, San Antonio. Good to stay informed.
some DFW gyms do flow rolling which is kind of a middle ground. you roll at 50% intensity focusing on movement and transitions rather than submissions. its more engaging than drilling but more structured than hard rolling
This has been on my mind too. Living in Austin gives you a different perspective on it.
the intensity is real and its a double edged sword. i loved being pushed but some weeks the hard training was too much for my body. you have to learn to manage your own training load because the culture is go-go-go
Can someone from the north side weigh in? Curious if it's the same up there.
tell that to Gordon Ryan lol. the guy who systematically dismantled everyone with leg locks IS the meta now. not teaching them is like a basketball coach saying we dont practice 3 pointers
the intensity matching rule is the one most beginners break. you are nervous so you go 100% and your training partner who was going 50% now has to go 80% just to not get hurt. read the room. if everyone else is flowing, flow
Been thinking about this all week. Good timing on the post.
Rent in Dallas-Fort Worth has gotten insane. Good topic to discuss.

the PAL boxing programs are an incredible resource that not enough people know about. they are free or nearly free for youth and some of the best coaches in DFW volunteer their time. community boxing at its best
the UFC deliberately slows down some matchups to build hype. they learned from boxing that marinating a fight can increase PPV buys. its frustrating as a fan but it works as a business strategy

adding one: dont record people without permission. some people dont want to be filmed training. always ask before you pull out your phone on the mat. this is especially important for women who might not want their image posted online
bro the jiu jitsu laundry thing lmao. my wife thought i was insane when i said i needed 3 gis. she understands now that ive been doing laundry every other day for 2 years
the DFW club wrestling scene deserves a ton of credit. clubs like some of the ones in the north dallas suburbs are producing kids who are technically sound before they even get to high school. the feeder system is building
the PAL boxing programs in south dallas and fort worth saved lives. not an exaggeration. kids who would have been on the streets were in the gym learning discipline and getting direction. those programs are national treasures
Fort Worth side has some hidden gems that nobody talks about. Worth the drive.
