Just lost power in the Waterview area. It is 4:15 PM and the whole neighborhood seems dark. Streetlights on Bayside Pkwy are out too.
What I know so far:
- Power went out at approximately 4:10 PM
- My section of Waterview near the lake is fully out
- Talked to a neighbor who says the Bayside side of the development is also out
- The Oncor outage map shows approximately 2,800 customers affected in the Rowlett area
- Estimated restoration time on Oncor's website: 7:00 PM
What I am doing:
- Checked Oncor outage map at stormcenter.oncor.com — confirmed widespread outage in northeast Rowlett
- Called Oncor automated line and got a confirmation that crews are dispatched
- Running off a portable battery for phone and internet
If your power is out:
- Report it to Oncor even if the map already shows it. More reports = faster prioritization. Report at oncor.com or call 888-313-4747.
- If your garage door is electric, the manual release is the red cord hanging from the rail. Pull it toward the door to disengage.
- If you have a sump pump that runs on electricity and it is raining, this is a flood risk. Check your lowest level.
- Refrigerator will stay cold for about 4 hours if you keep the door closed. Freezer lasts 24-48 hours if full.
Update 5:00 PM: Oncor map now shows 3,100 customers affected. Crews on scene near the substation on Chiesa Rd. Looks like a transformer issue.
Update 6:30 PM: Power just came back on in my section of Waterview. Checking if it is restored everywhere.
Drop your location and status below so we can track where it is still out.
This is exactly why I keep a portable power station. Goal Zero Yeti 500 — keeps the fridge running for a few hours and charges all the phones. Worth every penny in Texas.
