Rowlett Fourth of July celebration — where to watch fireworks and parking tips

The Rowlett Fourth of July celebration is one of the best in the DFW suburbs. Here is everything you need to know to have a good time and avoid the chaos.

Event details:

  • Date: July 4th (Friday this year)
  • Location: Pecan Grove Park, Main St, Rowlett
  • Time: Festivities start at 5 PM, fireworks at approximately 9:15 PM
  • Cost: Free admission

What to expect:

  • Live music on the main stage starting at 5 PM
  • Food trucks lining the park entrance (usually 15-20 vendors)
  • Kids zone with bounce houses, games, and face painting
  • Vendor booths along the walking path
  • Fireworks launched from the field adjacent to the park, visible for miles

Parking strategy — this is critical:

  • Pecan Grove Park parking fills up by 4:30 PM. If you are not there by 4, do not even try.
  • Overflow parking at the Rowlett Community Centre on Main St — about a 10-minute walk to the park
  • Church parking lots along Main St usually open their lots. First United Methodist is the closest.
  • Street parking on the residential streets off Main St fills by 5 PM.
  • The DART station lot is technically an option but it is a 20+ minute walk. Good if you do not mind the hike.

Pro tips from someone who has been going for years:

  • Bring chairs and a blanket. Set up on the hill on the east side of Pecan Grove Park for the best fireworks viewing angle — the fireworks are launched to the west so you want to face that direction.
  • Bring a cooler with water and drinks. The food truck lines get long and water runs out.
  • Bug spray. July in Texas near a lake means mosquitoes.
  • Leave early or leave late. The 9:30-10:00 PM exit rush turns Main St and Chiesa Rd into a parking lot. Either leave at 9:45 before the finale ends or wait until 10:30 when it clears.
  • If you have a boat, watch the fireworks from Lake Ray Hubbard. The reflection on the water is stunning. Launch from Springfield Park early in the day.

What to avoid:

  • Do not park on Dalrock Rd. You will get ticketed.
  • Do not try to drive through downtown Rowlett between 8-10 PM. Main St is effectively closed.

This is one of the few times a year the entire city comes out. It is worth dealing with the parking headache.

If you have little kids, the bounce house area is great but bring cash. Some vendors do not take cards. Also the face painting line gets insane so hit it first before the kids see the other stuff.

Watching the fireworks from a boat on Lake Ray Hubbard is the absolute best way to do it. We anchor about 200 yards offshore and the reflection on the water doubles the show.

Leaving tip: We walk back to our car during the finale, load up, and sit in the car for 15 minutes scrolling our phones. By the time the rush passes it is a clean exit. Do not try to leave during the peak.

The hill on the east side of Pecan Grove Park is the pro move. We stake out our spot by 4 PM with chairs and a canopy. Bring extra stakes because it gets windy near the lake.

Last year I parked at the Methodist church lot on Main St and it was perfect. Short walk, easy exit after the fireworks. They even had volunteers directing traffic.

Food truck tip: eat dinner before you go. The lines for food trucks are 30-45 minutes by 6 PM. Bring snacks in a cooler and enjoy the music while everyone else stands in line.
