Dating scene here is... something else

Been single for about 6 months. Back on the apps. Some observations about dating around here.

  • Every third profile is someone holding a fish they caught
  • The question "what church do you go to" comes up on the first date more often than I expected
  • Distances are insane. Matched with someone who seemed great — they live 45 minutes away. That's a 90-minute round trip for a dinner date
  • Everything closes early compared to where I lived before. Date night options after 10pm are basically Whataburger

Not complaining about any of this specifically, just observing. How are people actually meeting people around here? Apps? Church? Through friends?

I met my girlfriend at a trivia night at a local brewery. Go to recurring social events where you see the same people week after week. That's how actual connections form.

The distance thing is the real killer. I refuse to date anyone more than 20 minutes away. In Texas that eliminates like 80% of the population.

Church and mutual friends are how most people here meet. I know that's not helpful if you're not religious but that's honestly the reality.

The fish photo thing is real and I will never understand it. What message is that sending? "I have patience and access to a lake"?

Through friends or through hobbies. Join a sports league, a gym, a climbing wall, something. The apps are a wasteland everywhere, not just here.
