DFW watch party culture: Where to find people to watch shows with in the metroplex

Watching shows alone is fine. Watching shows with a group of strangers who are equally obsessed is better. Here is where to find watch parties in DFW.

Regular watch party venues:

  • Alamo Drafthouse (Richardson, Las Colinas, Lake Highlands) — They do watch parties for major premieres and finales. The Game of Thrones finale watch party was legendary (for all the wrong reasons). They will likely do events for Stranger Things final episodes.

  • Geeks Who Drink (multiple DFW bars) — Not exactly watch parties, but trivia nights themed around specific shows. Great way to find fellow fans. Source: geekswhodrink.com for DFW locations.

  • Free Play Arlington — Arcade bar that sometimes hosts themed watch parties with drink specials. Follow their Instagram for announcements.

Online DFW communities that organize watch parties:

  • DFW Nerd Night (Meetup group) — monthly watch parties for major premieres
  • Dallas TV Club (Facebook group) — organizes viewing events at members' homes
  • r/Dallas and r/FortWorth — watch party threads pop up for major finales

DIY watch party tips:

  • Rent a projector ($30/day from Home Depot) and set up in a backyard
  • The rooftop at SODA Bar in the Design District has TVs and is chill about hosting groups
  • Reserve a party room at Main Event or Dave & Buster's for a private viewing

Backyard projector watch parties during DFW spring weather are unbeatable. 75 degrees, clear sky, a projector on the fence, and a cooler of Shiner Bock.

DFW Nerd Night on Meetup is how I found my friend group after moving here. Cannot recommend it enough for people new to the area.

The Alamo Drafthouse Game of Thrones finale watch party was 200 people collectively losing their minds for 80 minutes. The energy when THAT episode ended was pure chaos.

Geeks Who Drink trivia at Barcadia in Deep Ellum is my weekly tradition. The themed rounds are genuinely challenging and the crowd is great.
