Stars prospect pipeline: Who is coming up through the system?

The Dallas Stars have invested heavily in drafting and developing talent over the past 5 years. Here is the state of the prospect pipeline.

Top prospects per The Athletic and EliteProspects (March 2026):

1. Forward prospect (AHL — Texas Stars): The top prospect in the system is a dynamic forward putting up 68 points in 58 AHL games. His skating ability and shot suggest a top-6 NHL role. ETA: 2026-27 season (should make the opening night roster).

2. Defenseman prospect (AHL — Texas Stars): A puck-moving defenseman with excellent first-pass ability. His defensive positioning has improved significantly this season. 32 points in 55 games from the blue line. ETA: Late 2026 or early 2027.

3. Goaltender prospect (USHL/College): A 19-year-old goalie with elite size (6-4) and good positioning. Still 2-3 years away from the NHL but the ceiling is starting goaltender. ETA: 2028-2029.

4-5. Two forward prospects (WHL/OHL): Both drafted in the 2024 NHL Draft. One is a power forward with physicality, the other is a skilled playmaker. Both are developing in junior hockey. ETA: 2027-2028.

System strength: Forward depth The Stars system is strongest at forward. Multiple players in the AHL and junior levels project as bottom-six NHL contributors. This depth allows the Stars to develop without rushing anyone.

System weakness: Defensive depth Beyond the top defenseman prospect, the blue line pipeline is thin. This is an area where the Stars need to invest via draft or trade.
