PSA: Fake code enforcement officers going door-to-door in Plano demanding payment

Multiple Plano residents are reporting people in official-looking uniforms going door-to-door claiming to be city code enforcement. They say your property has violations and demand on-the-spot payment via Zelle or cash.

How to identify the scam:

  • Real code enforcement NEVER collects payment at the door
  • Real notices come via mail on official city letterhead
  • They are wearing generic polos, not official city uniforms with ID badges
  • They specifically target elderly homeowners

What to do:

  • Do NOT pay anything
  • Ask for a business card and official city ID (they won't have one)
  • Close the door and call Plano PD non-emergency: 972-424-5678
  • File a report so they can track these scammers

Similar scam ran through Richardson last summer. Same playbook — fake uniforms, demand immediate payment, target seniors.

They came to my parents house in Deerfield last week. My 75 year old dad almost paid them $400. Caught it just in time.

Filed a police report yesterday. Officer said they have had over 20 reports in the last 2 weeks. They know about it.

Real Plano code enforcement drives marked city vehicles and will give you a case number you can verify at cityofplano.com.
