Am I wrong? My partner wants to move to the suburbs and I want to stay in Dallas proper

We've been together 4 years, living in an apartment in Knox-Henderson. We're ready to buy.

My partner's case for suburbs (Frisco/McKinney):

  • More house for the money (400K gets you 2500 sqft vs 1200 sqft inside the loop)
  • Better schools (thinking long term)
  • Safer neighborhoods
  • "We never go out downtown anymore anyway"

My case for staying in Dallas:

  • Our entire social life is within 15 minutes of where we live now
  • I work hybrid and my office is in Uptown — Frisco commute would be 45+ minutes
  • We go to Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts, Lower Greenville at least twice a month
  • Suburbs feel isolating. Everything requires a car and a 20-minute drive.
  • I don't want to be 30 minutes from everything I love about this city

The compromise attempt:

  • Lake Highlands? Richardson? Close to both but not ideal for either.
  • East Dallas? More affordable than Knox but still inside the loop.

What we earn combined: ~$180K Budget: $350-400K

Am I being selfish? Is the suburban dream worth it? Has anyone else had this exact argument?

Be honest.
