Just started watching hockey this year. What do I need to know?

My coworker took me to a Stars game and I was hooked immediately. Never watched hockey before. The speed and physicality is unreal.

But I don't understand half of what's happening. What's icing? Why do they change lines so fast? What makes a good power play vs a bad one?

I don't want a textbook explanation. Just tell me like I'm a football fan trying to understand hockey.

Watch the players without the puck. Once you see the positioning and movement away from the action the game makes so much more sense.

Lines change fast because skating full speed is exhausting. A shift is 30-45 seconds. It would be like if football linemen had to sprint the whole play.
