Update on the string of home burglaries in the M Streets — pattern identified

Following up on the M Streets burglary thread from last week. Dallas PD Northeast Division shared an update at the neighborhood association meeting.

Pattern identified:

  • 11 confirmed burglaries in the M Streets and surrounding Lakewood area since March 1
  • All between 10 AM and 2 PM on weekdays (when homes are empty)
  • Entry method: forcing back doors or entering through unlocked side gates
  • Targeted items: electronics, jewelry, small safes
  • Suspect(s) appear to ring the doorbell first — if someone answers, they pretend to be selling something

DPD response:

  • Increased patrols in plainclothes and unmarked vehicles
  • Working with Ring/Nest to pull doorbell footage from the area
  • Assigned a detective specifically to this case pattern

What you can do:

  • Lock your gates (even during the day)
  • Set your alarm when you leave, even for a quick errand
  • Share doorbell camera footage on the Neighbors app
  • If someone rings your bell and you're not expecting anyone, check the camera before opening
  • Join the M Streets Neighborhood Watch GroupMe — link on the neighborhood association website

DPD detective told us off the record they have a suspect from the camera footage. Just need one more piece of evidence.

Finally got my wife to agree to a real alarm system after this thread. Went with SimpliSafe, installed in an hour.

The M Streets GroupMe has been amazing for real-time alerts. We had a suspicious person reported and identified within 15 minutes.

I work from home and I still set the alarm. These guys are bold enough to enter even in broad daylight.

The doorbell test is the giveaway. My Ring caught someone ring and wait, then walk around the side of my house when I didnt answer. I was home and yelled at them through the Ring speaker.
