A pack of 3-4 coyotes has been spotted multiple times near Hughston Elementary and Jasper High School in west Plano.
Sightings:
- Monday 6:30 AM: spotted crossing Legacy near the school
- Tuesday 7 PM: seen near the baseball fields behind Jasper
- Wednesday 5:45 AM: pack of 4 running through Spring Creek Trail near Coit
Why this matters:
- These are near schools where kids walk and wait for buses
- Coyotes can be aggressive toward small children and pets
- Spring is denning season — they're more territorial and defensive
Safety tips (from Plano Animal Services):
- Don't leave pet food or water outside
- Secure trash cans with bungee cords or locking lids
- Keep small dogs and cats inside, especially at dawn and dusk
- If you see a coyote, make yourself big and loud. Don't run.
- Carry a walking stick or umbrella on early morning walks
