Victor Wembanyama was the most hyped NBA prospect since LeBron James. His rookie season showed the hype was justified -- and possibly undersold.

- Approximately 21 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks per game
- Led all rookies in scoring, rebounds, blocks, and was top-3 in assists
- The blocks-to-height ratio is historically unprecedented. He is 7'4" with an 8'0" wingspan
What makes him unique:
- Shot blocking + 3-point shooting. No player in NBA history has combined elite rim protection with legitimate 3-point range. Wembanyama shoots 3s at a rate and efficiency that would be respectable for a guard. For a 7'4" center, it breaks every historical model.
- Perimeter defense. He guards point guards in switches. A 7'4" player moving laterally with guards should not be possible. His defensive versatility could redefine team defense concepts.
- Ball handling. He brings the ball up the court. He makes passes that 7-footers do not make. The skill level at his size has no historical comparison.
The comparisons people make (and why they are wrong):
- "The next KD" -- Wembanyama is a better defender than KD ever was.
- "The next Giannis" -- Wembanyama shoots 3s. Giannis does not.
- "The next Hakeem" -- Closest comparison, but Hakeem was 7'0". The extra 4 inches change the calculus.
- The honest answer: there is no comparison. He is a new archetype.
