Missing Persons

Resources for finding missing loved ones in DFW — everything I learned the hard way

A family member went missing for 3 weeks last year. Thankfully they were found safe. But during those weeks I learned a lot about the process that I wish I'd known beforehand.

If someone you love goes missing in DFW:

  1. File a police report IMMEDIATELY. There is no 24-hour waiting period — that's a myth.
  2. Contact the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (if under 18) or NamUs for adults.
  3. The Salvation Army has a family tracing service that's free.
  4. Post on the DFW-specific missing persons Facebook groups — they have thousands of active members.
  5. Reach out to local news. They will cover missing persons stories especially if you can provide a photo and details.

The DPD Missing Persons unit can be reached directly. Don't just file online — call and follow up.

Hoping nobody here ever needs this information. But just in case.

Thank you for posting this. The myth about waiting 24 hours is dangerous. File immediately.
