"You know you're from DFW when..." — the definitive thread

Add yours. I'll start.

You know you're from DFW when...

  • You measure distance in minutes, never miles. "It's about 25 minutes from here."
  • You've sat in the Buc-ee's parking lot and questioned all your life choices
  • You have strong opinions about which Whataburger location is the best one
  • You call it "the mix-master" and everyone knows exactly what you mean
  • 65 degrees is "freezing" and 95 degrees is "not even that hot"
  • You've been to NorthPark Mall 47 times and still don't know where you parked
  • Your car has hail damage and you just... accepted it
  • You know that "75 Central" and "US-75" and "Central Expressway" are all the same road
  • You've debated Dallas vs Fort Worth at least once this week
  • You've been stuck behind a truck going 45 on a 70mph highway and felt nothing because you're dead inside
  • You consider anything north of McKinney to be "Oklahoma, basically"
  • You've told someone "oh that's only 30 minutes away" when it was actually an hour
  • You know at least 3 people who've had their car broken into
  • "The star" could mean the Cowboys, the State Fair, or the TV show, depending on context

Your turn. What did I miss?

You've been to a Cowboys game and spent more on parking and beer than on the actual ticket.

You've had to explain to out-of-state friends that Dallas and Fort Worth are two different cities with two different vibes and no, we don't all ride horses.

The hail damage acceptance is peak DFW energy. "Oh that? Yeah, last spring. It's cosmetic. I'm not fixing it."

When someone asks where you're from and you say "Dallas" even though you live in Plano/Frisco/Irving/Garland because nobody outside Texas knows those cities.

You know multiple routes to everywhere because WHICH highway is backed up determines your entire day.
