Where to live in your 20s and early 30s in DFW. Ranked by social scene, commute, walkability, and rent value.
Tier 1: The best
- Lower Greenville — Best food street in Dallas, close to White Rock Lake, 10 min to downtown. $1,500-2,000 1BR. The sweet spot.
- Uptown — Most walkable, most social. Expensive ($1,800-2,400) but you'll make friends fast. Katy Trail running culture.
- Knox-Henderson — Lower Greenville's slightly more polished neighbor. Great restaurants, good bars.
Tier 2: Excellent 4. Deep Ellum — If you're into live music and nightlife. Cheaper rent but grittier. Safety concerns after midnight. 5. Bishop Arts — If you're more artsy than preppy. Best coffee, unique shops. Oak Cliff is evolving fast. 6. Near Southside Fort Worth — Magnolia Ave is the best single street in DFW. If you work in FW, this is the answer.
Tier 3: Solid value 7. Addison — Underrated. Affordable, centrally located, good restaurants. Addison Circle has a walkable core. 8. Richardson — If you work at Texas Instruments, UTD, or anywhere on 75. Asian food corridor. Affordable.
Avoid in your 20s (unless you want to): Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Prosper. Fine for families but you'll feel isolated socially.
