DFW coupon stacking: How I save $200+/month on groceries

This isn't extreme couponing. This is strategic spending. Here's my system.

Step 1: Digital coupons (10 min/week)

  • Kroger app — load digital coupons every Wednesday when they reset
  • H-E-B app — check weekly deals tab
  • Target Circle — stack manufacturer coupons with store coupons

Step 2: Cash back apps (passive)

  • Ibotta — scan receipts after shopping. I average $15-20/month.
  • Fetch Rewards — scan any receipt for points. Lower payout but it's free money.

Step 3: Store-specific hacks

  • Kroger: Buy gift cards during 4x fuel points promos. $0.40-1.00 off per gallon.
  • H-E-B: Combo Locos are the best in-store deals. Changes weekly.
  • Aldi: No coupons but already cheapest. Buy their brand on everything.
  • Costco: Executive membership 2% back pays for the membership if you spend $250+/month.

Step 4: Timing

  • Meat markdowns: Kroger marks down meat at 8am. H-E-B varies by location.
  • Bakery markdowns: Evening, usually after 7pm at both Kroger and H-E-B.

My monthly breakdown:

  • Grocery budget: $400 for 2 people
  • Coupons/digital deals saved: ~$80
  • Cash back apps: ~$20
  • Fuel points savings: ~$30
  • Markdown purchases: ~$40
  • Total saved: ~$170-220/month

Ibotta has gone downhill lately but Fetch Rewards has gotten better. Both are worth the 30 seconds to scan.

Kroger fuel points on gift cards is the real hack here. I buy Amazon and restaurant gift cards during 4x events and save a fortune on gas.

The meat markdown tip is gold. I got $40 worth of ribeyes for $16 at the Kroger on Beltline last week.
