Annual DFW membership comparison: Which ones actually save you money?

I did the math on every major DFW membership/pass. Here's what actually pays for itself.

WORTH IT:

  • Costco Executive ($130/yr): 2% back. If you spend $250+/month, membership is free. Plus gas savings of $0.20-0.40/gal. Source: costco.com
  • Dallas Zoo membership ($99/yr for 2): Zoo admission is $17/person. Pay for itself in 3 visits. Includes reciprocal admission at Fort Worth Zoo. Source: dallaszoo.com
  • Sam's Club Plus ($110/yr): Free curbside pickup + 2% back. Gas savings alone cover it. Source: samsclub.com
  • Texas State Parks Pass ($70/yr): Covers entry to ALL 80+ state parks for everyone in your car. Single visit to Cedar Hill is $5/person. Source: tpwd.texas.gov

DEPENDS ON YOUR USAGE:

  • AMC A-List ($23.95/mo): See 3+ movies/month? Worth it. Less? Just do Tuesdays. Source: amctheatres.com
  • Dallas Arboretum ($125/yr for 2): Great if you go 4+ times. Parking is free with membership (normally $15). Source: dallasarboretum.org
  • Perot Museum ($160/yr family): 3 visits pays for itself. Summer camps get member discount. Source: perotmuseum.org

NOT WORTH IT:

  • Most gym chains with annual "maintenance fees" hidden in the contract
  • Groupon Select ($4.99/mo) — the deals are barely better than free tier
