When I accepted this job in Uptown, I told my team I "live close by." I live in Mansfield.
Every morning I wake up at 5:45 AM to be at my desk by 8. I drive 35 miles each way on I-35W to I-30 to the DNT. It is 55 minutes on a GOOD day. On a bad day it's 75.
Why did I lie? Because during the interview they asked "is the commute going to be an issue?" and I said "no, I'm close" because I really wanted the job.
That was 14 months ago. I have driven approximately 22,000 commute miles. I have listened to 47 podcast series in their entirety. I know every pothole on I-30. I have a very specific relationship with the woman in the silver Camry who merges at the same spot every morning at 7:22 AM.
My coworkers think I live in Knox-Henderson. I cannot correct this now. I'm in too deep.
The gas budget is killing me.
