The 2026 anime season has been incredibly stacked. Here are the standouts from Winter and Spring.
Winter 2026 (January-March):
-
Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory (MAPPA) — The prequel arc focusing on young Gojo and Geto. Episode 5's fight between Gojo and Toji Fushiguro might be the best-animated fight sequence since Demon Slayer's Mugen Train arc. MAPPA pulled out every stop.
-
Vinland Saga Season 3 (MAPPA) — Thorfinn's journey into the Greek Mediterranean continues. The pacing is deliberate but the character development is extraordinary. This is what happens when a Viking revenge story becomes a pacifist epic.
-
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 (Madhouse) — The continuation of the post-adventure story. Frieren's quiet melancholy and the exploration of what comes after "saving the world" remains unique in anime.
-
Dandadan (Season 2, Science SARU) — The most visually inventive anime airing right now. Alien abductions, ghosts, and high school romance blended with insane animation quality.
Spring 2026 (April-June) early picks:
-
Chainsaw Man Season 2 (MAPPA) — Adapting the Bomb Devil arc. Reze's introduction changes the tone of the series entirely. If MAPPA nails the rooftop scene from Chapter 52, this will be anime of the year.
-
My Hero Academia: Final War (Bones) — The final arc. Deku vs. Shigaraki is here. After 8 years, the series is wrapping up.
-
One Piece (Egghead Arc) (Toei) — The Vegapunk revelations are earth-shattering for the One Piece lore.

Chainsaw Man Season 2 adapting the Reze arc is everything. Chapter 52's rooftop scene is the most emotionally devastating moment in the manga. If MAPPA does it justice, this wins anime of the year.
