Doorbell camera caught someone trying my door at 3am

Ring doorbell alert at 3:12am. Checked the footage. Guy walks up to my front door, tries the handle, it's locked, and he walks to the next house.

Cleared the whole street based on what my neighbors said the next morning. At least 3 other cameras caught the same guy.

I filed a police report with the footage. Clear image of his face. But I'm not expecting much. This is terrifying regardless. We have kids in the house.

Anyone else had this happen? What extra security measures are actually worth it?

Deadbolt, motion sensor lights, and a door reinforcement kit. The kit is $50 and makes it nearly impossible to kick the door in. That's the most vulnerable entry point.

Share that footage on your neighborhood social media. Nextdoor, Facebook group, whatever. Other people's cameras might have caught him arriving or leaving in a car. Plate numbers are what police need.

The fact that he tried the handle and moved on when it was locked tells you everything. Most of these people are looking for easy targets. Make your house not the easy one.

Same thing happened to us last month. We added window sensors and a door bar on the sliding glass door. Total cost: $80. Sleep much better now.

Get a dog. I'm only half joking. Even a small loud dog changes the calculation for someone trying doors at 3am.
