While football gets all the attention, Texas basketball has been making serious noise. The Moody Center changed everything.
The Moody Center effect: The old Erwin Center was a dump. No atmosphere, outdated, felt like watching basketball in a convention center. The Moody Center is a top-5 college basketball arena in the country. The sound, the sightlines, the student section. It transformed the program overnight.
On the court: Texas has been competitive in the SEC from day one. The roster is built through the transfer portal — experienced players who come to Austin for the NIL opportunities and the chance to play in the SEC tournament and NCAA tournament.
The Austin factor: Recruiting to Austin for basketball is even easier than football. You're selling year-round warm weather, an incredible city, and a brand-new arena. The basketball program is landing players it never would have gotten at the Erwin Center.
March Madness: Texas has been a consistent tournament team. The goal is Final Four contention. The SEC is a bloodbath in basketball — Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn — but Texas belongs in that conversation now.

The SEC basketball gauntlet is brutal. Texas went from beating Kansas State and Iowa State to playing Kentucky and Auburn every year. The level jumped.
