South Congress Ave (SoCo) is Austin's most iconic street and the food truck scene here is one of the best in the country. Here's the current lineup.

- Torchy's Tacos (original South Congress trailer) — Where the empire started. The trailer is small and the line is long but there's nostalgia in ordering from the original.
- Hey Cupcake! (Airstream trailer) — Giant cupcakes from a silver Airstream. The red velvet is famous. Tourist trap? Maybe. Still delicious? Yes.
The actual best trucks:
- Mellizoz Tacos (South 1st, close to SoCo) — Street-style tacos that compete with anything on the East Side. The al pastor with pineapple is perfect.
- Pueblo Viejo (South 1st) — Voted best food truck in Austin multiple times. The Tres Amigos plate is massive.
The food truck park era: Austin's food truck culture has shifted. Individual trucks still exist but food truck parks have become the model. Lots with 5-10 trucks, communal seating, string lights, and a bar. It's a curated experience now.

- The Picnic (South 1st at Barton Springs) — Multiple trucks, good beer selection, dog-friendly patio.
- South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery — Several trucks with covered seating. Good for groups who can't agree on what to eat.
How food trucks work in Austin: Most trucks are cash and card now. Hours vary — some are lunch only, some do dinner, some are weekends only. Check Instagram before you drive. Nothing worse than pulling up to a closed truck.
