Eating my way through DFW one neighborhood at a time. Oak Cliff roots.
The driver shortage is real and it's not just GISD. Every district in DFW is struggling. Be patient with the drivers — they're overworked and underpaid and they're keeping your kids safe.
We transferred from Plano ISD to GISD and honestly the SPED services have been comparable. Our daughter's ARD team at her Rowlett elementary has been responsive and collaborative. It depends heavily on the individual campus and staff.
GISD SPED teacher in Rowlett here. I want parents to know that most of us genuinely care and are doing our best with the resources we have. Please communicate early and often. We want to help your child succeed.
Noise from PGBT is noticeable if you're in Waterview or the neighborhoods along the southern stretch. Sound walls help but they don't eliminate it. Something to consider if you're house shopping.
The toll costs are real though. My TollTag bill is $160/month between PGBT and the DNT. That's basically a car payment in tolls.
My fear is that Sapphire Bay sucks all the oxygen out of downtown development. Why would a restaurant open on Main Street when they could open on the Sapphire Bay waterfront? The city needs to market downtown as a different experience — local, walkable, community-oriented vs tourist-oriented.
I wish the city would focus on getting a good restaurant or brewery downtown before worrying about a town square. You need a reason for people to GO there first.
My only complaint is weekend frequency. Waiting 25-30 minutes for a train on Saturday makes DART less useful for non-commute trips. If they could get it to 15-minute intervals on weekends, more people would ride.
DART access from downtown Rowlett is a genuine asset. My husband takes the Blue Line to Galatyn Park station for work. 25-minute ride, reads on the train, no stress. We chose this location specifically for DART.
The Ring doorbell camera is the MVP. My neighbor's footage is what cracked this case. If you do not have a camera on your driveway in 2026, you are rolling the dice.
The owner deserved better. Running an independent restaurant is the hardest small business there is and he did it for 12 years. Respect.
This will impact property taxes and city services. Follow closely.
The potential here is enormous if the city follows through on the Downtown Master Plan. A good brewery or restaurant on Main Street would change everything. Right now there's not enough reason for people to come downtown, but the bones are there.
The rising rent on Lakeview Pkwy is going to kill more small businesses. When a strip center raises rent 30% because of Sapphire Bay speculation, the pizza shop and the dry cleaner are the first casualties.
This will come up at the next city council meeting for sure.
Living in San Antonio gives you a different lens on this. Appreciate the thread.
Sharing this with my neighbors. They need to see this.
This hits different if you've been in DFW for 10+ years.
This is why I check this community daily. Information saves lives.
Local politics affect your daily life more than national. Worth paying attention.
Can someone from the north side weigh in? Curious if it's the same up there.
Interesting perspective. I see it differently from the Fort Worth side.

The ISD decisions affect property values too. This matters.
This is exactly why I love this platform. Real DFW conversations.
Visiting at night is the best advice here. The complex I almost signed at looked great during the day tour. At 10 PM it was a completely different scene.
