Born and raised in Oak Cliff. Know this city inside and out.
The Rowlett-Lakeview game is an absolute scene. My family has lived here since 1990 and we've gone to every single one. Even years when both teams have losing records, the stands are packed. It's not about football — it's about community.
Been thinking about this all week. Good timing on the post.
Safety is everyone's concern. Good to have this discussion.
Real talk right here. No sugarcoating.
Been waiting for someone to bring this up. Good thread.
the addicted at month 3-4 is accurate. i was ready to quit at month 2 because i was getting smashed every class. then one day i swept a blue belt and it was the greatest athletic achievement of my life
Allen High School wrestling has become a legit powerhouse. they are competing with traditional wrestling states at national tournaments. 10 years ago that was unthinkable for a Texas program
North Rowlett is Rowlett's best-kept secret. The newer infill homes being built up here are nice — 3,000+ sq ft on big lots for $450K-$500K. Try getting that in Bayside.
Food truck tip: eat dinner before you go. The lines for food trucks are 30-45 minutes by 6 PM. Bring snacks in a cooler and enjoy the music while everyone else stands in line.
Interesting perspective. I see it differently from the Fort Worth side.
Interesting development. Curious how this plays out for Houston.
This is exactly why local elections matter. Read up, Dallas-Fort Worth.
This hits different if you've been in DFW for 10+ years.
Rockwall CAD is more aggressive than Dallas CAD on Rowlett properties, in my experience. My friends on the Dallas County side of Rowlett seem to get smaller annual increases.
$8M for parks might not sound like a lot but it goes far. Community Park needed new playground equipment badly — the old stuff was from the 90s and showing its age.
Youth swim lessons fill up in HOURS. Set a reminder for the first Monday of the quarter and register at 8am sharp or you're on the waitlist.
people forget that the best BJJ in MMA comes from wrestlers who learned BJJ, not BJJ guys who learned to wrestle. the wrestling-to-BJJ pipeline produces better MMA fighters than the reverse
the game plan thing is so important. i went into my first tournament with zero plan and just scrambled for 5 minutes hoping something would happen. my second tournament i had a clear plan: takedown → pass to side control → mount → collar choke. went 3-0
Has anyone checked this out yet? Need a firsthand review.
Education in Houston is a hot topic. Good to see it discussed here.
This will impact property taxes and city services. Follow closely.
Protest your appraisal. I got mine reduced by $28K last year by bringing comps from my neighborhood to the Rockwall CAD hearing. It took 20 minutes. That saved me about $700 in taxes.
Interesting — I think the Dallas-Fort Worth angle gets overlooked.
Real talk right here. No sugarcoating.
The Fall Festival on Main Street is peak small-town Rowlett energy. Hayrides, face painting, everyone from your kid's school. It's what makes this city feel like a community.
D3 wrestling is underrated. you get a full college experience, you compete at a high level, and you dont destroy your body for a scholarship that might get revoked if you get injured. more DFW families should consider D3
