Deadbolt, motion sensor lights, and a door reinforcement kit. The kit is $50 and makes it nearly impossible to kick the door in. That's the most vulnerable entry point.

Stores in wealthier areas don't lock stuff up even though they get shoplifted too. It's a customer experience decision, not purely a theft rate one. Think about what that says.

Our neighborhood started a group chat where people post when they're expecting deliveries and others keep an eye out. Old school community policing. Actually works.

My barber recommended a BBQ spot that's been open since 1991. Went there. No signage. Just a smoker and some picnic tables. Best ribs I've had in this state.

I met my girlfriend at a trivia night at a local brewery. Go to recurring social events where you see the same people week after week. That's how actual connections form.

The caveat is that trades destroy your body. I'm 38 and my knees and back are shot. The money is real but so is the physical toll. Have a plan for what you do at 50.

Compared to where I moved from in the northeast, this is still a bargain. But yeah the trajectory is not great.

I'm remote and I love it but I'll be honest — the isolation is real. I go days without talking to another adult in person. Make sure you have a plan for that.

Old school Tex-Mex places are the best example of this. The ones where the enchilada plate is $9.99 and it comes with rice beans and chips. No substitutions. Perfection.

Electrician for 12 years. Made $95K last year. Zero student debt. Bought a house at 24. I work hard but I'm not broke. Most of my college friends can't say both of those things.

Same thing happened to me in January. 3 years, great reviews, gone in a 10 minute call. The market is rough but not dead. Took me 11 weeks to find something. Apply everywhere, even stuff you think you're overqualified for.

The end of the Paddle Point fishing pier at sunset is legitimately one of the most beautiful spots in all of DFW. I've lived in Dallas for 20 years and nothing in the city compares. The sky goes full orange-pink-purple and the water mirrors it.

It depends where you came from. My friends in California still pay double what I pay for everything. Texas is expensive compared to 2019 Texas, but cheap compared to a lot of other places.

the McDojo accusations are unfair. a McDojo promotes students without merit and charges for belt tests. Octagon has legitimate belt standards and the coaches (at least at my location) hold students to them. its a chain, not a McDojo. theres a difference

for DFW boxers: shadowboxing in front of a mirror at home is free and its the best way to improve your footwork. 15 minutes a day focusing on movement. no punches. just move correctly. your coach will notice within a week

the real answer is the best striking art is the one at the gym closest to your house with the best coach. a mediocre art with a great coach beats a great art with a bad coach every single time

the karate to MMA pipeline is more real than people think. Wonderboy Thompson, Lyoto Machida, Robert Whittaker — all karate-based fighters who adapted it to MMA. the distance management and blitzing is unique and hard to deal with

started adding wrestling conditioning to my BJJ training — stairs, sprawl drills, shot drills, live wrestling rounds. my gas tank for competitions improved more in 2 months than the previous year of just rolling

Buffalo Wild Wings pro tip: call ahead on big PPV nights and get a table reserved. ive been turned away before because the place was at capacity by 7pm for a Conor card

the MMA gym watch party is the move and i wish more people knew about it. watching fights surrounded by actual fighters and grapplers who can break down what just happened in real time is an elite experience

41 points

counterargument: its the fighters choice and body autonomy matters. BUT — when the culture pressures every fighter to cut and the alternative is fighting at a size disadvantage, is it really a choice?

my P4P has Pereira at 1 and i dont care if its controversial. the man cleared out middleweight, is clearing out light heavyweight, and has the most highlight reel KOs in UFC history. the eye test matters

modify everything. come to class, drill technique with a trusted partner who knows youre injured, and go home. do not roll. the 6 week competition can wait or you can compete at the next one. there is always another tournament

this list is clutch. ive been wanting to visit other gyms but didnt know when open mats were. saving this thread
