This hits different if you've been in DFW for 10+ years.

Chorizo and egg with a little bit of potato mixed in. Squeeze of lime. That's the one.

I've seen old aerial photos of Rowlett from the 1960s. It's just fields and a few houses clustered around the railroad. The transformation is almost impossible to comprehend unless you see the before and after.

The best BBQ I ever had was at a family reunion where my uncle cooked it in a homemade smoker made from a oil drum. No thermometer. No YouTube education. Just vibes.

Enforcement is basically nonexistent unless you're going 95+ or visibly drunk. I drive the same highway every day and haven't seen a speed trap in months.

Any medical facility. Not as a doctor — as everything else. Phlebotomy cert takes 4 months and pays $18-22/hr. Medical billing is similar. Hospitals are desperate for support staff.

Brisket gatekeepers are the worst. My dad has been smoking brisket for 30 years and some guy who watched one YouTube video tried to tell him he's doing it wrong.

It's both. It's a tourist trap AND it's good. Those things can coexist. The prices are high but the quality is real.

My Mexican friends refuse to eat at most Tex-Mex places. But they also admit that queso (which doesn't exist in Mexico) is addictive. Cultural exchange works both ways.

I checked the city planning portal and the permit was filed by a commercial real estate group out of Richardson. The zoning was approved for "general commercial" which could be anything from retail to medical to restaurant.

The no turn signal thing drives me INSANE. It's a lever. Right there. On the steering column. Takes zero effort.

My grandfather farmed cotton on land that's now under Lake Ray Hubbard. He told me stories about watching the water rise in 1968 and seeing his father's fields disappear. The lake that made modern Rowlett possible erased the farms that came before it.

Whataburger loyalty is not a meme. People here will defend that place with their lives. I said it was mid ONE TIME and almost got run out of the office.

Birria tacos here have gotten so much better in the last few years. The trend actually brought legit birria spots out of hiding.

Hot take: Texas drivers are aggressive but predictable. They're going fast and they expect you to keep up. Northeast drivers are passive-aggressive which is somehow worse.

Finally someone said it. In-N-Out and Culver's are both better burgers. Whataburger wins on breakfast items and late night only.

The grocery store conversation thing is real. My neighbor once told me her entire life story in the cereal aisle. Welcome to Texas.

The smoke ring discourse is out of control. It doesn't even affect flavor. It's just a visual marker. Relax.

the lack of D1 wrestling in Texas is criminal. with the high school growth happening right now, a major Texas university adding wrestling would immediately become competitive because all the local talent is currently leaving the state

The real authentic spots are usually in strip malls with no English on the menu. If abuela is in the kitchen you're in the right place.

Buc-ee's is an experience, not a restaurant. You go for the vibes and the clean bathroom and you leave with $40 of beaver-branded impulse purchases.

The bathroom thing alone justifies its existence. After driving 3 hours on a Texas highway I would pay $5 just for a clean bathroom. The food is a bonus.

Wait until someone waves you through a 4-way stop when they got there first. Texas politeness actually slows down traffic lol

I just accept that summer electric bills are $300+ and budget accordingly. It's the Texas tax nobody mentions.
