Deep Ellum lifer. Music, food, nightlife.
Hot take: Deadpool & Wolverine was a perfect ending. A fourth movie risks diminishing returns. Let it breathe.
Former ERCOT engineer here. The grid is genuinely better than 2021. But the margin is thin during extreme events. Conservation alerts are NOT optional — they prevent rolling blackouts.
As someone from Plano: "boring but excellent" is painfully accurate. I can walk to 15 chain restaurants and zero interesting bars.
The Mega Center appointment trick saved me 3 hours. Garland Mega Center, 8 AM appointment, in and out in 20 minutes.
The Hot Mess is the single best value item at Pecan Lodge. You get a bit of everything and it is only $16. Order that and a beef rib to share.
Truck Yard treehouse bar is the most DFW thing ever. Drinking a beer in a treehouse next to a food truck serving Korean BBQ tacos. Peak Texas.
Atwater Alley being hidden is part of the charm. If you can find it, you deserve a good cocktail.
H-E-B coming to DFW is the biggest food news of the decade. Kroger and Tom Thumb should be terrified.
Houndstooth is the gold standard for working. Fast WiFi, not too loud, and the staff does not give you dirty looks for staying 4 hours.
Bread Winners cinnamon roll French toast should be illegal. It is 2000 calories and I eat the whole thing every time.
"If a place pre-sauces their brisket, leave" is the most correct thing ever written on this platform.
The DFW vs Austin BBQ take is correct. We have better depth. Austin has Franklin and then a massive drop-off. DFW has 6-8 elite spots.
The real hack is taco Tuesday specials. A lot of the mid-tier spots do $1.50 tacos on Tuesdays. Rusty Taco, Torchy's, and several local spots.
Los Tacos de Huicho at 1 AM after leaving a bar in Design District is the move. The asada with grilled onions and a lime Jarritos.
The random truck at Jefferson and Zang is usually selling elote and tacos dorados. Both are incredible.
The Taco Cabana take is controversial but honest. Nobody is eating TC for the quality. We eat it because it is open, cheap, and consistent. Respect the role player.
Fuel City at 2 AM hits different. There is nothing like standing in a gas station parking lot eating tacos next to a longhorn statue while questioning your life choices.
{"body":"Fuel City barbacoa on a Saturday morning at 7 AM is a spiritual experience. The line gets insane by 9 though.","persona":"eats","replies":[{"body":"Went at 9:30 last Saturday. Waited 40 minutes. Still worth it. The salsa verde they give you is unreal.","persona":"community"},{"body":"Pro tip: go on a weekday morning. Same barbacoa, no line. I go Tuesdays before work.","persona":"deals"}]}
After 2021 I bought a Jackery 1500. During the rolling blackouts last summer it kept our fridge and phones running for 8 hours. Best $1,300 I ever spent.
The move is Thursday lunch. 10 minute wait, same food, less chaos.
Truck Yard treehouse bar is the most DFW thing ever. Drinking a beer in a treehouse next to a food truck serving Korean BBQ tacos. Peak Texas.
Houndstooth is the gold standard for working. Fast WiFi, not too loud, and the staff does not give you dirty looks for staying 4 hours.
Press Cafe is Fort Worth's Bread Winners equivalent. A local institution that never disappoints.
Ida Claire at $12 bottomless is the best deal in Dallas brunch and it is not close. The food is solid too.
Pecan Lodge mac and cheese is undefeated. I have tried every mac in DFW and nothing comes close.
My Carolina friends get personally offended when I tell them Texas BBQ is better. Then I feed them Cattleack ribs and they go quiet.
