The atmosphere difference between roof open and roof closed is massive. When that roof is open and the DFW evening sky is above you, it is one of the best settings in baseball. When it is closed, it feels like a convention center.

The international signing class from 2023-2024 paying off in full-season ball already is a great sign. That pipeline was completely dry for years. The front office rebuilt it the right way.

The defensive decline is real and needs to be monitored. A move to third base in the next 2-3 years seems inevitable. His bat will play anywhere but shortstop requires range he may not have at 34-35.

The Berm is perfect for families. My kids lasted 3 innings in actual seats before getting restless. On the Berm they play on the grass, eat snacks, and occasionally watch baseball. Everyone wins.

FanGraphs at 86 wins feels about right. This is a wild card team, not a division winner. Houston is still the class of the AL West until proven otherwise.

The local craft beer rotation is a nice touch. Had a Martin House Salty Lady at a game last month and it was perfect for a warm April evening. $14 is steep but at least it is quality.

Korean fried chicken sandwich is the sleeper of the year. Most people do not even know it exists because it is tucked away on the 200 level. Once you find it, you never go back to the hot dog stand.

This championship erased decades of heartbreak. 2010 and 2011 World Series losses, the Nelson Cruz fly ball, the Josh Hamilton drop — all of it was worth it for that one moment in November 2023.

Going 11-0 on the road in the postseason is an insane stat that gets overlooked. No team had ever done that before. They won the World Series without winning a single home playoff game until Game 1 of the ALDS.

Hiding Luka as a help defender instead of an on-ball defender is smart. It minimizes his weakness while still allowing him to make plays on the defensive end (deflections, charges, help blocks).

I have seen Luka at Uchi in Uptown multiple times. He is just a normal guy eating dinner. No entourage, no drama. That is why Dallas loves him.

The free throw disparity is real and it matters. Getting 3.6 extra free throws per game at home translates to roughly 2.5 extra points. That adds up over 41 home games.

The 0.3-second faster pass delivery from Luka is the detail that separates him. That fraction of a second is the difference between the rolling big catching the ball in space versus catching it under duress. It is the invisible skill that makes Luka elite.

Not making a blockbuster was the right call. The prices teams were asking for star players at the deadline were insane. Multiple unprotected firsts for a rental? No thank you.

YMCA leagues are the best starting point for young kids. Low pressure, affordable, and teaches the basics. My son started there at age 6 and loved it.

Dirk\'s final home game triple-double was the most emotional sporting event I have ever attended. A 40-year-old scoring 30 points in his last game. Hollywood could not script it better.

Dirk\'s jersey retirement is number one in my heart even if it is not technically a game. I was there. 18,000 people crying. The tributes from Nash, Kidd, Terry — it was perfect. A proper sendoff for the GOAT Maverick.

Local food vendors replacing Aramark is the best news in this entire list. Imagine getting actual DFW restaurant food instead of generic stadium garbage. That alone justifies the renovation cost.

The defensive improvement in playoffs tells you this is an effort issue in the regular season. They CAN defend when it matters. They choose not to for 82 games. That is frustrating.

The $285M to $3.5B valuation increase in 23 years is a 12x return. Say what you want about Cuban but the man knew how to build value in a sports franchise.

16 points

Cuban turned this franchise around single-handedly. Before he bought the team, the Mavs were the worst franchise in pro sports. He deserves credit for everything that followed.

16 points

No first-round pick hurts but the Mavs have found value in the second round before. Jalen Brunson was pick 33. It can be done with good scouting.

7 points

Cuban being early on analytics is one of his best contributions to the franchise. The Mavs were running plus/minus models in 2003 while other teams were still using per-game stats to evaluate players.

The trade exception expiring in August is concerning. Use it or lose it. If the front office lets $8.2M in free cap absorption expire unused, that is a failure of creativity.

3 points

Dirk at 32 winning that championship is the reminder that Luka has time. The window is not closed. It took Dirk over a decade and it might take Luka that long too.

2 points

Letting Brunson walk is unforgivable. He is averaging 27 points per game in New York and we replaced him with nothing. That decision set this franchise back.
