The defensive decline is real and needs to be monitored. A move to third base in the next 2-3 years seems inevitable. His bat will play anywhere but shortstop requires range he may not have at 34-35.

The Berm is perfect for families. My kids lasted 3 innings in actual seats before getting restless. On the Berm they play on the grass, eat snacks, and occasionally watch baseball. Everyone wins.

FanGraphs at 86 wins feels about right. This is a wild card team, not a division winner. Houston is still the class of the AL West until proven otherwise.

The local craft beer rotation is a nice touch. Had a Martin House Salty Lady at a game last month and it was perfect for a warm April evening. $14 is steep but at least it is quality.

Korean fried chicken sandwich is the sleeper of the year. Most people do not even know it exists because it is tucked away on the 200 level. Once you find it, you never go back to the hot dog stand.

Corey Seager earning World Series MVP was inevitable after that ALCS. The man was built for October. His 2023 postseason OPS of .982 was elite. Source: Baseball Reference.

Adolis Garcia in the 2023 ALCS is the greatest individual postseason performance in Rangers history. The walk-off grand slam in Game 3 is the single loudest moment Globe Life Field has ever produced.

Hiding Luka as a help defender instead of an on-ball defender is smart. It minimizes his weakness while still allowing him to make plays on the defensive end (deflections, charges, help blocks).

I have seen Luka at Uchi in Uptown multiple times. He is just a normal guy eating dinner. No entourage, no drama. That is why Dallas loves him.

A 30-11 home record versus 20-21 on the road is the kind of split that makes home court advantage in the playoffs critical. An extra home game in a 7-game series could be the difference.

The 0.3-second faster pass delivery from Luka is the detail that separates him. That fraction of a second is the difference between the rolling big catching the ball in space versus catching it under duress. It is the invisible skill that makes Luka elite.

Using the trade exception for a free center is smart front office work. That is exactly what trade exceptions are for. Cost: nothing. Benefit: a competent backup center for the playoffs.

The wing defender acquisition is the move that matters. 39% from three and elite defense? That is exactly what this team has been missing. And it only cost a late second-round pick.

City rec leagues are underrated. Plano runs a great program for $75 per season. Games on Saturdays, one practice per week. Perfect for kids who want to play without the travel basketball commitment.

Mavs Academy camps are well-run. My daughter attended last summer and the coaching was legitimate. Not just babysitting with basketballs — actual skill development.

Luka\'s 51-point triple-double was the moment I realized we have a top-5 player in NBA history developing in front of us. The ease with which he controls a basketball game is terrifying.

Local food vendors replacing Aramark is the best news in this entire list. Imagine getting actual DFW restaurant food instead of generic stadium garbage. That alone justifies the renovation cost.

The defensive improvement in playoffs tells you this is an effort issue in the regular season. They CAN defend when it matters. They choose not to for 82 games. That is frustrating.

The quieter ownership is actually better for basketball operations. Cuban was great but sometimes his public persona created distractions. Let the basketball people do their jobs in peace.

No first-round pick hurts but the Mavs have found value in the second round before. Jalen Brunson was pick 33. It can be done with good scouting.

4 points

Cuban being early on analytics is one of his best contributions to the franchise. The Mavs were running plus/minus models in 2003 while other teams were still using per-game stats to evaluate players.

The trade exception expiring in August is concerning. Use it or lose it. If the front office lets $8.2M in free cap absorption expire unused, that is a failure of creativity.

One thing Dirk had that Luka does not yet: clutch playoff performances that won series. The 2011 run is the benchmark. Luka needs his own version of that.

18 points

Dirk at 32 winning that championship is the reminder that Luka has time. The window is not closed. It took Dirk over a decade and it might take Luka that long too.

Dennis Smith Jr. over Donovan Mitchell haunts me. Mitchell was right there. The worst part is Dallas valued athleticism over skill, which is a scouting failure.

The rideshare tip is real. I always walk to the Perot Museum area before calling an Uber. Wait times drop from 15 minutes to 5 and the surge pricing disappears.
