Show cancellation anger thread: Pour one out for the shows that deserved more

Netflix and other streamers keep killing shows that deserved full runs. This is the anger thread. Let it out.

The most painful cancellations (recent):

  • Mindhunter (Netflix, 2 seasons) — David Fincher's serial killer procedural was one of the best shows on television. The Ed Kemper interrogation scenes are among the best TV ever produced. Cancelled because Fincher moved on to other projects. Source: Fincher interview with Variety.

  • The OA (Netflix, 2 seasons) — One of the most ambitious shows ever attempted. Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved. The fan campaign to save it was massive and Netflix ignored it.

  • Archive 81 (Netflix, 1 season) — Creepy cosmic horror that found a massive audience. Renewed, then un-renewed. Classic Netflix.

  • 1899 (Netflix, 1 season) — From the creators of Dark. Expensive, ambitious, multilingual sci-fi mystery. Cancelled after one season despite strong viewership. Source: creators' statement on Instagram.

  • Warrior (Max, 3 seasons) — Bruce Lee's original concept. One of the best martial arts shows ever made. Barely marketed, constantly on the cancellation bubble.

  • Raised by Wolves (Max, 2 seasons) — Ridley Scott's sci-fi vision. Bizarre, beautiful, and cancelled on a cliffhanger.

Why this keeps happening: Streamers do not care about completing stories. They care about subscriber acquisition. New shows attract new subscribers. Continuing shows retain existing ones. The math favors cancellation.

The streaming model is fundamentally broken for storytelling. You cannot build loyal audiences when every show might get cancelled after one season. Cable at least let shows find their footing.

Warrior being undermarketed is a crime. A show based on Bruce Lee's writings with incredible fight choreography and it gets buried. Watch it if you have not.

Mindhunter cancellation still makes me furious. Jonathan Groff interrogating serial killers with Holt McCallany was appointment television. Fincher please come back.

The OA Season 2 ending with THAT cliffhanger and never getting resolved is genuinely disrespectful to the audience. Netflix owed us closure.

1899 from the Dark creators deserved better than one season. That show was building something genuinely original. The cancellation felt personal.
