Student Life

UTD is academically great but socially it's a ghost town on weekends

I'm a junior at UTD and I love the education. The CS program is legit, professors are solid, and the campus has gotten way nicer.

But on Friday afternoon the campus empties out like someone pulled a fire alarm. By Saturday it's a desert. Everyone commutes or goes home. There's no real "campus life" the way SMU or TCU has.

The Plano apartments around campus are fine but there's nothing to walk to. No bars, no scene, just Cane's and a CVS.

Anybody else feel like UTD is missing the social component?

Join clubs. Seriously. The esports club, hackathon groups, cultural orgs — that's where the social life is at UTD. It doesn't happen organically.

This is the UTD experience. Academically strong, socially dead. It's a commuter school and always has been.
