Best pre-game and post-game spots near AAC for Stars games

The Victory Park area surrounding the American Airlines Center has excellent options for Stars game nights. Here is the curated guide.

Pre-game (arrive 2-3 hours early):

  • Katy Trail Ice House (3127 Routh St, 10-minute walk from AAC) — The unofficial Stars pre-game spot. Outdoor beer garden with a massive selection. Hockey fans gravitate here. $7-10 craft beers. The Stars crowd starts gathering about 3 hours before puck drop.

  • Hero (Victory Park location) — Directly across from AAC. More of an upscale sports bar. Good if you want food before the game without rushing. $15-25 entrees.

  • Happiest Hour (2616 Olive St) — Rooftop patio, great atmosphere. More of a general crowd but always has hockey fans on game nights.

  • Mesero (2401 Victory Park Ln) — Tex-Mex with solid margaritas. Good for a group dinner before the game. Get a reservation on weekends.

Post-game:

  • Katy Trail Ice House — Stays open late. The post-game crowd migrates here naturally. Great for rehashing the game over beers.

  • Idle Rich Pub (2614 McKinney Ave, 15-minute walk) — If you want to escape the immediate game crowd, this English-style pub has a quieter vibe and stays open late.

  • Standard Pour (2900 McKinney Ave) — Craft cocktails and a whiskey list. Upscale post-game option.

The DART advantage: Victory Station is steps from AAC. Take the Green Line, avoid parking entirely. Pre-game at a bar near another DART station (Mockingbird, Cityplace), then ride to the game. No driving, no parking cost, no post-game traffic.

Post-game at Idle Rich is the sophisticated move. Quieter, better drinks, and you can actually have a conversation about the game without screaming over a crowd.

Mesero for pre-game dinner is solid but get a reservation for Saturday games. Walk-in wait times on a weekend game night can be 45+ minutes.

DART for Stars games is the way. I park at Mockingbird Station for free, ride to Victory Station in 10 minutes, and never deal with traffic or parking. The total cost is $5 round trip vs. $25 for a garage.

Katy Trail Ice House before a Stars game is a tradition at this point. The outdoor beer garden filled with green jerseys on a crisp winter night is perfect. Cold beer, hockey talk, then walk to the game.
