Electricians in DFW: how did you get started and what are you making now?

I'm 26 and stuck in a warehouse job making $16/hr. I keep hearing that electricians make good money but I don't know how to actually get into it.

Do I need to go to a trade school first? Can I get hired as a helper with zero experience? What's the realistic timeline from knowing nothing to making $30+/hr?

I'm in the Garland area. Any specific companies that train people from scratch?
