Divorced at 42. Started dating again after 18 years off the market. DFW dating after 40 is its own universe.
What's different:
- Apps still work but the pool is different. More divorced parents, more people who know exactly what they want.
- Schedule coordination is 10x harder. Kids, careers, aging parents. Finding a free Saturday night takes military planning.
- First dates are shorter. Nobody over 40 has 4 hours for a maybe. Coffee or one drink. Done.
What works in DFW over 40:
- Hinge — best app for this age group. Profiles have more substance.
- Church singles groups — I know, but hear me out. Park Cities Presbyterian, Christ Chapel (FW), and Gateway all have active 40+ groups.
- Wine bars — The Grape (Greenville Ave), Times Ten Cellars (multiple), Kent & Co. Mature crowd, conversation-friendly.
- Charity events — DFW has constant galas, fundraisers, and benefit events. Meet people with shared values.
Honest observations:
- DFW over-40 dating involves a LOT of "when do you bring up the kids" conversations. Answer: early.
- The suburbs have more single 40+ than you'd expect. Don't limit your radius to Dallas proper.
- Being upfront about what you want is respected, not weird, at this age.
